A stone mortar of probable late medieval to post medieval date (c. AD1400- 1700). The mortar has been carved from a single block of stone and is sub-oval in plan and U-shaped in profile. Projecting from the rim are three semi-circular lugs for stability and decoration. A triangular void has been chiselled out of the top of each lug and a modern blue triangular inlay has been inserted. One side of the object has been damaged and repaired with modern mortar or concreate. This repair may have occurred at the same time that the lugs were modified.
