A complete cast post-medieval copper alloy coin weight. The object is square in plan. The obverse is too worn to discern. The reverse shows a crown with three points above V S. Below this is V I D. This shows the value of coins of the same weight would be 5 shillings and 6 pence.
The shilling first came into use with attempts made during the reign of Edward VI (1547-1553) to reduce the debasement of coins and increase the fineness of silver coinage. This makes the earliest possible date for this coin weight to be AD 1549, though it is probably somewhat later.

A copper alloy coin-weight for a French 1/2 ecu, issued 1422-75. The object is square in plan. One face of the object carries a shield within which are three fleur-de-lis. To either side of the shield is another fleur-de-lis. The coin-weight was probably made in the Low Countries, or Germany, probably issued late 15th, early 16th century.
Paul Withers notes: The weight is very light indeed, it should be more like 1.75 if it were full weight. There might be something on the reverse, but it is difficult to say for sure.
