A silver complete single loop buckle of Meols type 4 dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1350 - 1400. Treasure case: 2015 T294. The frame is D-shaped in plan and the upper face is bevelled. There is a small, pointed knop in the centre of the outer edge which is notched to take the pin. The strap bar is offset and the pin remains attached and complete. The pin is lozenge shaped in cross-section and measures 11.66mm in length and 2.30mm in width at its base. The base of the pin flares out and is sub-rectangular. The shape and design of the pin gives it a sword-like appearance. …

Cast silver fragment of a Post-Medieval buckle. Fragment of a rectangular shoe buckle. It has asymmetrical openwork with moulded floral decoration. There are three flowers decorating the fragment, two of which are the same while the corner flower is surrounded by a beaded outer circle. Similar examples can be found on p.107, Whitehead: Buckles 1250-1800: Greenlight Publishing.
