Broad period: MODERN
County: Sefton

Description: The object is a strip of silver with a pattern of what appear to be stamped lines on one side, cut at both ends and bent. There are no visible test marks, and no trace of solder or other fastening. Dimensions: 8mm wide, and 1mm thick. Weight 4.52g Discussion: The object has some similarities with so-called broad-band arm-rings of the late 9th and 10th centuries, produced in Viking contexts around the Irish Sea. Such pieces were commonly cut-up as 'hack-silver', valued by weight within a bullion economy. Finds of arm-rings of this type are recorded from Viking hoar…

Description: A silver twisted wire ring. Dimensions: Length: 18 mm Width: 17 mm Thickness: 3 mm Weight: 0.8 g Discussion: The option of this being an Early Medieval find was discarded on the basis of construction as it is made from a strip rather than a rod and also due to the format of the terminals. Also on the basis of construction (made of a strip of twisted silver with a twisted wire) the option of it being of Medieval date was put aside. On further inspection the item was found to probably be an element from a more elaborate piece of jewellery dating to…

A silver finger ring in the form of a strap or miniature belt. It has fractured across the band at one point, no gilding is evident. The hoop, which has a fracture across it, has a band width of 6.3mm, an internal diameter of 22.2 x 19mm and weight of 5.844g. The finger ring has a form typical of a nineteenth century date. The popular form was made by a range of manufacturers, including Spiers (Hart 1978, 133). Details of the strap slide vary, and some have buckle loops. This ring is of nineteenth-century date and therefore as it is not at least 300 years old is not treasure under …
