An incomplete silver rowel spur comprising of two incomplete arms and neck. The neck, which bifurcates to take the missing rowel is broken on one half, due to what appears to be a modern break. Iron corrosion is visible on the unbroken half of the neck where an iron rivet remains in-situ. This would have attached the rowel to the neck. Each arm is broken at a similar length due to a recent break. The arms are D-shaped in cross-section and undecorated. The object has been silvered and has an adhering patch of copper alloy corrosion in one place. Dimensions: 51mm in length, 56mm i…

Description: A silver twisted wire ring. Dimensions: Length: 18 mm Width: 17 mm Thickness: 3 mm Weight: 0.8 g Discussion: The option of this being an Early Medieval find was discarded on the basis of construction as it is made from a strip rather than a rod and also due to the format of the terminals. Also on the basis of construction (made of a strip of twisted silver with a twisted wire) the option of it being of Medieval date was put aside. On further inspection the item was found to probably be an element from a more elaborate piece of jewellery dating to…

It is a silver sixpence of King William III, dated 1697, which has been converted into a pendant by the addition of a suspension loop. The coin will be of the silver currency standard, i.e. sterling (92.5% fine metal). Its weight is 2.9g, with the loop. The suspension loop has been placed so that the king's portrait is upright, so this was presumably meant to be the side on view. It appears, therefore, that some sort of commemoration of William III was intended. The coin is somewhat worn, however, and it looks as though it had seen a degree of circulation before its conversion into …
