Silver pendant, ovoid, with a circular attachment loop at the top. The reverse has five circular perforations arranged in the form of a cross. The pendant is set with an orange carnelian intaglio; it depicts a fallen soldier wearing a gladiatorial helmet, facing to the right; he holds a shield towards a large feline, probably a panther, which is rearing up at him. A modern imitation of an Anglo-Saxon sceat of Series E ('Porcupine' type). The imitation is a match for the 'Ashmore' replica produced by Trevor Ashmore in the 196-s-70s. It is listed in Abramson's 'Sceattas: an illustrated guide', p. 154 no. 8. On the reverse is a beaded square enclosing bars, with possible symbols around the outer edge of the coin. Dimensions: 12mm in diameter, 1.1g.
