Treasure Case 2022 T851 Description:  A complete silver gilded eye piece from a hook and eye fastener dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1500-1700). The body of the piece is broadly heart shaped, with sewing loops either side of the point of the loop and a larger loop at the top of the heart. The large hoop is where the hook from the other part of the fastener would have previously been attached. The outer edges which form the shape of the heart consist of foliate branches.  The central design of the piece is reminiscent of an urn with a flat top and rounded body.…

Treasure case: 2016 T528 A silver sheet and wire two piece probable hook section of a post-medieval clothing fastener. The object can be classified as Read Class B, Type 2. The object consists of a circular plate with a central pellet around which is an applied six-leafed flower. Surrounding the flower is a double band of applied twisted silver wire which forms a border. An incomplete silver dress fastener. Cast as a single component, the body is sub-traingular in plan and on one end projects a rounded attachment loop. Extra casting material is added in the shape of an X on one side to reinforce the narrowing of the fastener between the body and the attachment loop. The other end of the object comes to a blunt point which is flanked by two unevenly sized eyelets. The edges of the body have a scalloped effect, now mostly worn away. Silver probable dress fastener dating to the Post-Medieval period. A loop is soldered centrally onto the edge of a sub rectangular bar. The bar is rectangular in cross section and has seven perforations running along the length of it. Perforations suggest that textile or leather was sewn to the object for use as a dress hook. Diameter of loop: 10.60mm. In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

A silver artefact, roughly triangular in shape. Possibly a mount with two studs on the back for attachment to leather or textile. Central square hole, on the front curved flange near the square hole with two triangular compartments of floral decoration. Possibly a mount for a belt (?). The object is well made and the floral design may suggest an early 16th century date. The age and precious metal content of this item therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Dora Thornton

Silver-gilt, cast, 'eye' section forming one half a post-medieval 'hooked-clasp and eye' fitting. Possibly in the form of two birds with their backs to each other. One large attachment loop at the base and one smaller one in between the two heads. In the centre, between the birds, are four circular holes, possibly for the purpose of attaching the eye to the garment.
