An incomplete finger ring of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. Treasure case 2015 T162. Description: Two fragments from a silver finger ring probably dating to the 12th century. In its current state the ring is incomplete. The larger fragment is made up of portions of the hoop and the bezel. The bezel is integral and is slightly convex. Although bent out of shape the convex shape seems to have been intentional. The bezel is decorated with a series of horizontal incised lines. Description: Silver strap-end of Thomas's Class A, type 1, originally decorated in Trewhiddle style, but later re-worked to depict a human figure, perhaps imitating a 'Heiligenfibel' or 'Saint' brooch. The original strap-end is extremely well made. It has a split attachment end, although the two halves are now pressed closely together with no gap in between and indeed appear never to have been apart. Silver hooked tag with central panel decorated with a Trewhiddle-style animal. Description: Hooked tag with a basically drop-shaped plate, with rounded projections at the upper corners, each perforated with a circular sewing hole. The plate has an elegant concave taper towards the base to meet a small but complete backwards-bending hook. The panel of engraved ornament is set inside an undecorated frame and consists of a single, very neatly made, Trewhiddle-style animal in flat counter-relief, whose head points towards the hook and so is best viewed with the sewing holes held to the …
