A complete silver thimble of post-medieval date. The thimble has irregular pits which run down the sides in straight rows; each pit is divided from the next by vertical and horizontal incised lines forming a square grid like effect. The crown of the thimble is domed and has a central pit surrounded by two circumferential grooves. This is surrounded by circles of pits which are again divided into a grid-like formation with the squares instead forming a trapezoidal shape corresponding to the widening dome. An un-pitted band separates the sides from the dome. The rim, also un-pitted, …

Description: A silver twisted wire ring. Dimensions: Length: 18 mm Width: 17 mm Thickness: 3 mm Weight: 0.8 g Discussion: The option of this being an Early Medieval find was discarded on the basis of construction as it is made from a strip rather than a rod and also due to the format of the terminals. Also on the basis of construction (made of a strip of twisted silver with a twisted wire) the option of it being of Medieval date was put aside. On further inspection the item was found to probably be an element from a more elaborate piece of jewellery dating to…

An inscribed ring, silver gilt (?). Plain on one side, the other inscribed in relief ONCE MYNE AND EVER THYN with three crosses. The plain surface is very slightly curved, suggesting that the surface with the inscription is inside. The ring has been straightened and appears to have been repaired (repair located between TH and YN of the inscription 'THYN'). This ring does not correspond to any of the posy rings in the British Museum collections, which have exteriors that are either plain or decorated with inscriptions on the inside. This is therefore a puzzling example which m…
