Silver pendant, ovoid, with a circular attachment loop at the top. The reverse has five circular perforations arranged in the form of a cross. The pendant is set with an orange carnelian intaglio; it depicts a fallen soldier wearing a gladiatorial helmet, facing to the right; he holds a shield towards a large feline, probably a panther, which is rearing up at him.
Comment: For a parallel, cf P.Zazoff (ed), Antike Gemmen in Deutschen Sammlungen.IV Hannover, Kestner-Museum (Wiesbaden 1975), p.203 and Taf.136 no.1015 (Martin Henig, pers. comm.)

A silver Read Class B, Type 2 dress hook dating to the early Post-Medieval period. The object is cast in two pieces with a silver circular sheet and a separate hooked-section. The circular sheet is surrounded by twisted wire filigree. The object is decorated with a central cross, in the centre of which is the base of a circular rivet which attaches the hook. Within each angle of the cross is an oval silver wire cell, each of which are in filled with a white enamel or stone. An incomplete and damaged medieval silver artefact, possibly a brooch, with traces of gilding. The object is square in cross-section, with two of the rims decorated with an incised zigzag pattern. It is broken at both ends, with one terminating in a plain tip.
In terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.
Dimensions: length 46.6 mm, width of cross-section 4.6 mm at the largest point.

An incomplete cutlery handle of post-medieval to modern date. The fragment is sub-triangular in plan and oval in cross-section. The object has an iron core and an outer coating which is possibly silver measuring 1.5mm thick. At the incomplete end is a projection of the dark grey silver coating. Iron corrosion has leached through the surface at the terminal end of the handle obscuring the decoration and causing pitting in the outer surface of the object.
