A silver oak tree Massachusetts three pence, issued by colony of Massachusetts, North America, dating to the Post-Medieval period. Reverse: NEW ENGLAND; 1652 III. Though dated '1652', such coins tend to be attributed to the period c. 1667 - c. 1674 AD. The argument is that the date either alludes to the foundation of the mint at Massachusetts or fixes a point during the British Commonwealth thus legitimising the colonists right to strike coinage which was otherwise reserved for the king, (Webley, R (2012) HAMP-936A71 A POST MEDIEVAL COIN Webpage available at: http://finds.org.uk/da…

Description: A silver twisted wire ring. Dimensions: Length: 18 mm Width: 17 mm Thickness: 3 mm Weight: 0.8 g Discussion: The option of this being an Early Medieval find was discarded on the basis of construction as it is made from a strip rather than a rod and also due to the format of the terminals. Also on the basis of construction (made of a strip of twisted silver with a twisted wire) the option of it being of Medieval date was put aside. On further inspection the item was found to probably be an element from a more elaborate piece of jewellery dating to…
