Treasure Case: 2016 T798 A medieval silver annual brooch with pin, broken into five composite parts. The hoops of the brooch is circular in section. One side of the hoop fragments which represents the front of the brooch, has interspersed incised vertical lines and circular punch marks between these lines. The pin is complete, the shaft is circular in section and tapers to a point. The base of the pin is formed of sheet silver folded into a loop, for threading onto the brooch hoop, and two discs of silver soldered under this loop to form a collar. A silver voided short cross penny of King John, minted by Abel of London. Reverse: +ABEL ON [LVN]DE; voided short cross. There are two pelleted curls to the bust which rules out class VIc2 ,VIc3 and VIIa the coin is anything between 5c to VIc1; however the long cross-bar of the letter E in ABEL and the pellet on the chin may point to a class VIb2 but as most of the bust and other diognostic features are not visible it is not possible for a definitive ID. Date is 1207-c.1216.
