A piece of gold probable casting waste of uncertain date. The object is irregular in plan and consists of a thin sheet of gold. The object is ridged with a curving pattern which is likely to have occurred when the liquid gold flowed onto an uneven surface and solidified. The gold does not appear to be purpose made with a deliberate pattern. The rear of the object has a dull gold colour and has the appearance of being pressed. The outer face is a brighter gold. The edges of the object are thin and sharp, and have been folded over in places.
Due to the undiagnostic nature of this fi…

An undiagnostic rod of twisted gold formed from at least two strands of uniform thickness, bent into an elliptical, penannular shape . Both terminals are spatulate, having been roughly flattened. The makers mark LJ Co is stamped on one terminal. Wear visible on upper face of outer surface. The object is probably a bracelet. XRF analysis of the surface indicates that it is gold alloy close to 9 carat gold.
Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface of this bracelet, indicated it to be of a gold alloy close to that of 9 carat gold - approximately 36% gold, 9% silver,…

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: MEDIEVAL
County: Cheshire East

A medieval finger-ring consisting of a flattened hoop and a raised pyramidal bezel. The bezel has a rectangular setting at its apex designed to contain a purple stone (probably an amethyst), which is now loose. The bezel has received some damage at its base. The stone was found loose inside the bezel suggesting that some sort of organic material which has decayed held it in place.
