A fragment of the stem of a clay pipe of post-medieval date. The object is tubular and is circular in cross-section. A central hole, with an internal diameter of 3mm, runs through the length of the object. Each end of the object terminates with a break. Dimensions: 7mm - width of stem, 3mm - diameter of hole, 23mm in length, 2.10g. Clay tobacco pipe stems are very difficult to date accuratly without accompanying makers mark or bowl. the internal diameter of the hole at 3mm converts to about 7/64" which would suggest that it is a late 17th to early 18th century stem.

The upper face of the object is smooth and worn with circumfrential grooves visible and occasional pitting. The lower face of the object is courser with frequemt small inclusions and pitting. The fragment is from a piece of course floor tile from the medieval period. The ceramic appears to be very hard stoneware and is glazed in an orange colour on one side whilst the other side is a brown colour with some white marks. The glaze has a profuse amount of inclusions of varying sizes and colour, however in majority they are a brown colour, with some big black ones. The inclusions on the rest of the tile in contrast are quite sparse. It weighs 26.9g, and is c. 43mm in length, c. 31mm in width and c. 16mm thick.

A pottery body sherd from an unknown type of vessel, dating to the medieval period. The fragment is almost rectangular in shape and is a brown colour except for once side which is distinctly a more light-orange colour, the colouring giving the impression the sherd was fired in a kiln with a more oxidising atmosphere. The fabric is hard earthenware and contains frequent inclusions which are small and black in nature, however there are occasional inclusions that are a little bigger that the others. It weighs 23.1g, and is c. 20mm in length, c. 54mm in width and c. 12mm thick.

A pottery rim sherd of moulded slip ware from the Post Medieval period, specifically c. AD 1701-1800. The fragment is very slightly curved and is orange in colour with a medium density of dark coloured inclusions, its fabric being hard earthenware. The edge of the rim has a notched, 'pie-crust' looking decoration which was common on 18th Century plates. The thin slip decoration is a yellow colour with dark brown coloured lines and circles along it. It weighs 23.4g, and is c. 47mm in length at the longest point, c. 56mm in width and c. 5mm thick.

The outer face of the fragment is covered with a mottled greenish black glaze. The internal face of the object has a greenish white glaze. The internal fabric is white with no inclusions. The fragment has been finely made and is likely to be an import of Medieval date.

An incomplete body sherd from a fired ceramic vessel of Medieval date. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and slightly curved in profile. The outer face of the fragment is covered with a mid-green glaze. The internal face of the object is light orange with small inclusions while the internal fabric a light brown and has been evenly fired. The object can be dated from the 13th to the 14th century.

An incomplete clay pipe of Post Medieval date. The object consists of the bowl of a clay pipe and a fragment of the stem. The mouth of the bowl is decorated with a series of moulded ridges. There is a small round spur at the base of the bowl measuring 5.89mm in diameter. The pipe bowl is incomplete and has a skull and crossbones motif on each side and part of a motto underneath. The motto would originally have read either 'DEATH OR GLORY' or 'DEATH & GLORY' (both versions occur and it's not clear which has been used here). An incomplete clay pipe of Merseyside Type S2 bowl of c1640-1660 (Higgins 2008, 149).The object consists of the bowl of a clay pipe and a fragment of the stem. The mouth of the bowl is decorated with an incised line. There is a small round spur at the base of the bowl measuring 4.24mm in diameter. The bowl has an internal diameter of 10.49mm and an external diameter of 18.04mm. The crescent-shaped stamp on the back of the bowl, facing the smoker, is characteristic of the Rainford area pipemakers and incorporates the manufacturer's initials PL. A fragment of a ceramic vessel of 17th century date. The object is trapezoidal in plan and is part of the base of a vessel. In the centre of the base of the object is a raised circular ridge to the outside of which the fragment turns slightly upwards. The base of the object has a deep red glaze while the opposite face of the object is dark orange. The inside of the vessel is rough with a swirled pattern and droplets of glaze. The internal fabric of the vessel is dark grey indicating that it was not fired all the way through.
