A fragment of the stem of a clay pipe of post-medieval date. The object is tubular and is circular in cross-section. A central hole, with an internal diameter of 3mm, runs through the length of the object. Each end of the object terminates with a break. Dimensions: 7mm - width of stem, 3mm - diameter of hole, 23mm in length, 2.10g. Clay tobacco pipe stems are very difficult to date accuratly without accompanying makers mark or bowl. the internal diameter of the hole at 3mm converts to about 7/64" which would suggest that it is a late 17th to early 18th century stem.

A ceramic fragment of the base of a vessel of Post-Medieval date, probably a pot. The fragment is sub-triangular in plan. Fused to the inner face of the base is an oval piece of lead measuring 20.60mm in length and 11.71mm in width. Surrounding the lead and fused to the top are patches of a dark glaze. The lead does not appear to be a deliberate repair or 'pot mend' as it does not continue through to the outer face of the vessel and there are no cracks visible. Rather it appears to have been something the pot contained. The lead may have been poured in and melted the surrounding glaze…
