Cast lead Post Medieval weight. The object is sub-triangular in plan with the narrowed end being the top which has a circular perforation used for attachment. It has a rectangular cross-section throughout. The surface is uneven. Regular diagonal grooves have been cut into one face and both edges of the object. The opposite face has more irregular scratches or grooves. This sort of weight could have been used for many purposes for many periods and so is difficult to date precisely when found out of context. A similar example which can be found on the database is LVPL-AD20B5.

A lead alloy possible spindle whorl or weight of medieval to post-medieval date. The object lozenge shaped in plan with a raised bi-conical circular centre. The object has a central circular perforation which measures 9mm in diameter. Each face has worn decoration, possibly lines which radiate out from the central perforation. The object is uneven. Due to its outer lozenge shape the object would not have functioned particularly well as a spindle whorl and therefore a line weight may be more likely. It is conical in profile and circular in plan, with one end tapering to a point and bearing evidence of some breakage which could suggest that there was once an attachment loop present. The underside is flat with the edges being very slightly raised. It is a dished weight, flat and circular in form with a prominent and raised outer rim on the upper face. Also stamped into the face is a sword (for St Paul's and the City of London). When made the mass may have been refined through filing; numerous diagonal fine marks are visible on the lower surface. A small fragment of gold, dished and decorated on the outside of the curve, possibly broken from some kind of vessel. The decoration appears to be a plant design, of probable late medieval date. The inner side is undecorated. The exact character of the object is uncertain. There is no reason to doubt that this object meets the 10% threshold required by the Treasure Act, or that it is more than 300 years old. As such it therefore qualifies as Treasure under the terms of the Act.

A cast copper-alloy fragment: possibly a dish support from a late medieval/early post-medieval chafing dish. The object tapers to a point at one end. It has a trapezoidal cross-section and appears to have been broken away from another element at the wider end. Lewis (1973, p63-4) describes the type of vessel which he calls type B: "These vessels are cast in one piece and finished on the lathe. The only decorative features are single or double incised girth lines. Bowl and pedestal are about the same depth. The bowl has sloping sides above the carination, and the rim flares out to f…
