Treasure Case: 2019 T700 An incomplete gold finger ring of medieval date (c.AD1200-1400). The plain hoop is round in plan, tapers from the shoulders toward the base. The hoop is D-shaped in cross section at the shoulders before tapering to a flattened oval cross-section. The hoop has been pulled out of shape, possibly due to damage within the plough soil. The thicker part of the shoulders of the hoop are soldered to the sub-rectangular bezel and joined by the form of a thin triangular attachment and holds the bezel in place. An incomplete lead alloy zoomorphic terminal in the form of a dog or wolf's head. The terminal is likely from a whistle. The animal has an elongated snout the end of which is rounded and a clenched jaw. Behind the front teeth a perforation runs through the mouth to the opposite side. The eyes, on each side of the head, are rounded pellets with ridged brows above. The ears are sub-rectangular and flattened against the side of the head. An incomplete and possible mis-cast copper alloy disc brooch. The brooch can be classified as Weetch's Type 5, with concentric circles, which she dates to the 10th century (2013, vol 1, 78). Originally the brooch would have been circular, with a slightlyconvex front decorated with a series of cast designs; at the centre of the brooch is a large raised boss with a central pellet, surrounding this is a circle formed from small pellets enclosed by a raised rib / ring. The object has a light powdery white patina. Dimensions: 27mm in diameter, 5mm thick, 33.15g Spindle whorls have reportedly been found in contexts dated from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period although the majority are typically dated broadly to the medieval period c.1100-1500.

A complete cast copper-alloy medieval pommel from a knife or a dagger dating to the period AD 1150-1450. The object is hollow and sub-spherical in form. One face has a large square hole measuring 10mm in width and length. The opposite face has a smaller sub-square hole measuring 7mm in length and 6mm in width. The object has been flattened on one side, possibly due to ancient damage. An incomplete double looped copper alloy buckle of early post-medieval date (c. AD 1550 - 1650). Only one end of the buckle frame remains, the pin and strap bar are also missing. The D-shaped loop is decorated with an acorn shaped knop on which traces of gilding remain. The remaining sides of the buckle frame are undecorated. The rear of the object is concave and undecorated. The buckle has a mid-brown patina. An almost complete copper alloy flat axehead of early Bronze Age date, c.2150 - 1500 BC. The axehead is sub-oval in plan with a lentoid cross-section. The axehead is extremely worn with no visible decoration. No signs of ridges or flanges are present indicating that this is an early flat axe. The butt is narrow, rounded and is almost complete measuring 21mm in width, and 3mm thick. One edge of the butt end has broken away. The cutting edge is crescent-shaped and measures 47mm in width and is 3mm thick. At the thickest point in the centre of the object the axehead measures 5mm. D…

An incomplete pewter (lead alloy) spoon of medieval to post-medieval date. The spoon bowl is fig-leaf shaped in plan and curves in profile. The stem is lozenge-shaped in cross-section and terminates in a recent break. File marks are visible on the faceted sides of the stem. The edges of the bowl have been slightly damaged, possibly due to abrasion from within the plough soil. There are no stamps or maker's marks on the object. A fragment of a copper alloy incomplete rectangular or sub-rectangular buckle. The size of the incomplete buckle suggests it may have been a double looped buckle. The outer frame is decorated with two rectangular grooves along its length. In the centre of the frame is a deep notch for the pin to rest. The remaining incomplete arm is narrowed and oval in cross-section. The rear of the frame is undecorated and file marks are visible. A copper alloy trumpet brooch from the Roman period, dating to c.1st to 2nd centuries AD. The trumpet brooch has a typical oval head which has no visible decoration or head loop is missing. The bow arches out from the head and tapers towards the foot. The bow is oval in cross-section. The bow is decorated with a worn oval waist moulding and terminates just below the waist moulding due to an ancient break.
