Spink no: 6582D Obverse: IACOBVS II DI GRATIA; laureate and draped bust left. Reverse: 1690 . MAG . BR . FRA . ET . HIB . REX; Crown with two sceptres crossed behind, in each quarter XII//I/R//MAY: (XII = denomination). These were official tokens issued in Ireland when James was attempting to recover the English throne and were supposed to be exchanged for silver coins of equivalent value. Obverse: IACOBVS DEI GRATIA; laureate and draped bust left. Reverse: 1689 MAG BR FRA ET HIB REX: Crown over sceptres dividing JR, XXX above, May below. These were official tokens issued in Ireland when James II was attempting to recover the English throne and were ultimately intended to be exchanged for silver coins of equivalent value.
