A copper alloy fragment of a Roman brooch of unknown type. Only the lower leg and catchplate of the brooch survives. The leg is slightly curved in profile. In the centre of the leg is a vertical raised band. The catchplate is almost complete. The object has a mid-green patina. An incomplete copper alloy Colchester, rear hook type brooch dated to the Roman period c.AD 25-60. This brooch has a slim body arched bow which arches out from the head and down towards the foot which is complete but which has been bent to one side. The pin is missing however the spring remains attached to the forward facing hook. The spring has been coiled 8 times around the axis bar. The catchplate is narrow and incomplete. Dimensions: 60mm in length, 22mm in width, 5mm thick, 11.8g Similar examples which can be found on the PAS database include KENT-1B4B73 and IOW-A79048.

Cast copper alloy Aesica brooch dating to the Roman period. The object has sub-tubular wings. The head consists of a crest which is undecorated. The bottom corners of the head expand out to form globular knops. The head joins the bow at a right angle. The bow is expands into a fantail. A pennanular ring sits on top of the bow and loops under the head of the object. The ring is decorated with diagonal grooves. The wings are also decorated with diagonal grooves at each end. The spring and pin are missing and the catchplate is incomplete. The objet has a dark-brown patina which is pitted…
