Treasure Number: 2017 T1013 Medieval silver coin brooch. It is a silver coin that has been converted into a brooch by the addition of attachments to one side (current weight: 4.08g, diameter: 29mm). The coin is a silver gros tournois of Philip IV, King of France (1285-1307), a relatively large silver coin for the period. The utilisation of French gros tournois as brooches in this manner is familiar in England at this time, and there have been many finds of similar nature. Copper alloy buckle plate in cast sheet metal with five rivet holes. Much of the backplate is missing though the loops through which the buckle pin would have passed are still intact. Medieval copper alloy double loop buckle of the 'locking' type, with an incomplete spindle arm c.1350 - 1450 (see Whitehead, 2003: 89) The buckle is rectangular in shape, with the pin catch plate loop showing decorative moulding when viewed from the side with a slight lip on the lower edge. A copper-alloy seal matrix of Late Medieval date. The matrix is circular with a hexagonally faceted stem with a trefoil terminal. The face is engraved with a crowned letter 'R' flanked by a pair of feathers. The terminal handle has been bent slightly to one side and is corroded. The object has a smooth dark brown patina with patches of light green corrosion in places. A Medieval copper alloy finger ring, dating to AD1200-1500. The object has a circular hoop which is D-shaped in section. The hoop is decorated with a central band incised with groups of 2-4 transverse grooves. Either side of the band the edges of the outer face of the hoop are decorated with a series of transverse grooves. The internal face of the object is undecorated however file marks are visible. The pendant is cruciform with a flat roundel at its centre from which three circular sectioned arms terminating in globular knops project. A cast copper alloy annular buckle / brooch of 13th to 14th century date. The buckle is of annular type and is complete. The annular frame is circular in plan and of faceted, oval section. There is no discernible decoration on either face of the frame. There is no constriction for the pin on the frame but there is a notch. The strap end consists of a single sheet of copper alloy which has been folded widthways and secured at the open end with a single rivet. Within the strap end traces of leather remain. The object has a dark green patina and can be dated from c.1150-1450. Similar examples can be found in Egan and Pritchard, (1991), p125-131.

A cast copper alloy forked spacer from a composite strap end dating to the Medieval period. The object is circular with a forked projection at the top. One of the forked prongs is incomplete. The terminal end is decorated with a projecting collared acorn knop. The object has a mid brown patina and is in fair condition. A similar example can be found in Egan and Pritchard, (1991), p141, no.651 and 652. The object can be dated from c. AD 1350-1400.

The pin is rectangular in cross-section and has a lateral ridge. The pin tapers to a point. The object has a rough orange-brown patina, it is pitted in places and traces of gilding can be seen. A small amount of green corrosion can be seen on the reverse and it is not magnetic. Similar examples can be found on p17, Whitehead, (2003). It can be dated to c.1250-1450.
