A copper alloy weight of medieval date. The object is spherical with a flattened base and a sub-oval attachment loop projecting from the top. The weight has a dark green patina and is undecorated. It weighs 12.8g. Similarly-shaped steelyard weights from the medieval period are often decorated with shields (often that of Richard, Earl of Cornwall) which are often seen (Ward-Perkins 1954:172-3). The steelyards were cast in copper alloy then through a hole in the bottom the correct amount of lead was poured in to achieve the desired weight (ibid.). Steelyard weights were made on …

A copper alloy book clasp dating to the Post-Medieval period. The object comprises of an upper plate, incomplete hook and a lower plate. The clasp is rectangular in plan with parallel sides. At one end the outer edge slightly flares to a serrated edge. Below this outer edge are three circular rivet holes. The book clasp then extends with parallel sides to a terminal with a flat edge that in the centre has an integral hook that has been folded towards the reverse of the clasp. A silver cufflink element dating to the Post-Medieval period. The object is circular in plan and is decorated with crown above two hearts in low relief reserved on a stippled field. On the rear of the object the loop is missing. Traces of iron corrosion and a white material possibly lead alloy adhere to the reverse of the objet. The loop is incomplete. Description: A copper alloy strap-end with a silver rivet in situ. The strap-end comprises a rectangular sheet of copper alloy which has been folded in half. The open end has a circular perforation, presumably for a lost attachment rivet. A silver rivet with large circular head pierces the plate about two thirds down, towards the folded end. An incomplete copper alloy rowel spur of post-medieval date. The spur is broadly 'Y' shaped in plan with 'U-shaped' arms and right-angled rowel box projecting from the centre at a 90 degree angle. The upper surface of the arms is rounded. Each arm terminates with a break. At the end of the longer arm are the remains of the top part of a circular loop which would have been for attachment. An incomplete early Post-Medieval copper alloy dress hook (1500-1600 AD). The plate is sub-oval in plan with three projecting lugs one at either side of the object and one at the top. Each side lug is pierced with circular perforations. The hook has broken away from the base of the object. The upper surface is decorated with a worn foliate design. Copper alloy Medieval bell pendant, probably forming part of horse harness decoration. The sheet metal bell has an integrally cast long shank. The suspension loop is missing due to an ancient break. The bell is globular in shape and formed by the folding inwards of four triangular leaves of sheet metal. This leaves a narrow saltire cross shaped aperture at the base. An incomplete cast copper alloy mount possibly dating to the Iron Age. The object is formed from two circular domed bosses on hexagonal and lugged bases. Each boss measures 15mm in diameter and 3.5mm in height. The bosses appear to have been separately cast and circular rivets can be seen at the rear of the object where they are attached. The object has a semi-circular-sectioned head-plate, foot-plate and bow with transverse rib either side of the apex, either end of the bow and the terminal ends. The centre of the object is decorated with three ring-and-dot motifs, one at the apex and one to either side. Three more ring-and-dot motifs decorate the object between each transverse rib.
