Various fragments of Roman greyware pottery. Forms appear to be jars and bowls. Greyware was one of the most common types of Roman pottery, and was made in many different places in Britain. Many different types of vessels were made, especially cooking pots. It was most common in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, but in some places continued in use until the 4th century.

Two fragments of pottery, possibly Roman in date, (45-410AD). The first fragment is irregular in it's shape and quite coarse. The upper surface is orange in colour while the lower surface is a dark grey. The internal fabric is both orange and grey in places with small inclusions. The second fragment is a rim sherd. It is rectangular in shape. The top of the rim is curved and there is an incised line just below the top. The outer surface is orange and the inner fabric is light grey. The surface is pitted.

Fragment of Roman greyware pottery. It is dark grey in colour and sub-rectangular in shape. It looks to have an internal deposit probably scale from water boiling or urine. An incised line runs across the widest part.

Fragment of Roman greyware pottery. It is sub-triangular in shape. The outer fabric is dark blackish brown with some light coloured inclusions. The internal fabric is grey with small inclusions. There is a layer of orange fabric on either side of the grey. It is an irregular greyware fragment.
