A fragment of Roman greyware dating from AD 43-410. The fragment is a rim-sherd, sub-rectangular in plan and slightly curved in profile. The object is broken on each side and the base while the rim curves outwards with an oval cross-section. The fabric is fine and sandy with a smooth feel. An incomplete post-medieval copper-alloy belt loop / slide (c. 1750-c. 1900). The strap fitting is sub rectangular in plan, and a flattened 'U' shape in profile. The top is rectangular, with rounded corners. It has been decorated by a series of 'dots' forming two spirals, perhaps representing foliage or scrolls. Remnants of an iron pin / rivet are present in the centre of each projecting side. This iron pin, presumably formed as the method of attachment to the strap. A complete copper alloy of Medieval date, (AD 1250-1450). The object is circular in plan with a hexagonally faceted handle. At the top of the handle is lozenge-shaped suspension loop with circular perforation which has an internal diameter of 3mm. The central motif depicts a kneeling figure, probably Mary on the left (when impressed, right when viewed facing), with hands together in prayer. From this extends a long rectangular sectioned 'neck' with a zoomorphic snake-like terminal. The animal head has an open mouth with tongue projecting and ridged brows. A copper alloy zoomorphic Anglo-Saxon hook from a hanging bowl. The object is curved in profile and is elaborately cast in the form of a beast, possibly a dog. The terminal of the beast has an elongated snout which is D-shaped in cross-section. Sitting above the snout within a raised border or collet are two circular eyes formed out of green glass. One end of the object terminates with a break or has been cut while the opposite end is rounded. Each end does not join. A silver cut quarter long cross penny of Edward I - Edward III (AD 1272-1377). Reverse: [ ]; long cross dividing legend, three pellets in each quarter. The coin is worn with no visible legend and therefore cannot be attributed to a specific ruler. Although neatly cut along one edge the opposite edge appears to have been torn rather than cut and as such this may in fact be a cut half-penny which has been damaged by the plough rather than deliberately cut in quarter. Three fragments of a silvered copper alloy spoon of 'Apostle' type. The spoon probably dates to the 18th or 19th century. Only a fragment of the bowl survives which has no marks of stamps. The handle terminal is formed by a standing figure of an apostle. The apostle is robed with his hands in front of him holding a possible short staff and a book. Beneath his robes the feet are visible below which are two transverse decorative ridges before the handle tapers in width. A lead alloy probable bead of unceratain date. The bead is circular in plan and flat with a hole pierced through the centre. The perforation has an internal diameter of 3mm and would have allowed the bead to be threaded. Each face of the object is undecorated and it has a mid-cream patina. There are few diagnostic attributes to the bead and it is therefore difficult to date. Dimensions: 16mm in diameter, 3mm diameter of perforation, 2mm thick, 3.9g.
