A copper alloy wire ring possibly dating to the Roman period. The object consists of two strips of wire which are bent into a circle to form the band. The ends overlap and curl around the band forming two slip knots. The strips of wire are circular in cross-section.
Dimensions: 19mm in diameter, 11mm in width at the bezel, 1.50g.
This basic style of slip-knotted wire ring had a long life (there are Roman examples) but was perhaps most popular in the 7th century AD, when it was most commonly used on necklaces. Similar finger rings are known from Viking graves and hoards of the la…

An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative, Polden Hill brooch, see Mackreth 2011, Chapter 3, Part 3, CD PH 4. a-b. The head of the brooch arched curving downwards and tapering towards the rounded foot. The wings of the brooch are tubular and capped at each end. The object is a sprung example with the spring coiling round nine times on the axis bar before extending in the center to form the incomplete pin. The pin terminates with a recent break.

An incomplete copper alloy bow brooch of the Wirral type dating to the Roman period. The object is a hinged example. The head is stepped but damaged and the headloop is missing.
The upper bow is decorated with three raised vertical panels which contain cells. Each cell is empty or contains patches of enamel. Each cell would have been filled with alternating colours of bright enamel forming a chequerboard pattern.
Below the panels is a raised rounded knop. The bow tapers below the knop and terminates with an ancient break. On the rear of the brooch only the top of the pin remains…

An almost complete copper alloy Colchester derivative, rearhook with fantail brooch dating to the eatrly Roman period. The wings are tubular and hollow, the spring and pin missing. The bow rises up and arches out from the wings before expanding in width towards the foot. Each side of the bow is decorated with a raised vertical rib running from the head to the foot of the object. The ridges are notched. At the rear of the object, the catchplate is almost complete and measures 12mm in length.
The object has a smooth dark green patina and is slightly pitted in places.

A complete copper alloy nail cleaner with high shoulder (Group), with a narrow shape, of Roman date. At the top of the object is a circular suspension loop with an internal diameter of 5mm. The body of the nail cleaner has rounded 'shoulders' where it attaches to the suspension loop and tapers in width towards the terminal which expands slightly forming a bifurcate terminal. Each face of the object is undecorated and file marks are visible. The object has a mid-green patina and is in good condition.

An incomplete copper alloy bow brooch of the Wirral type dating to the Roman period. The object is a hinged example. The head is stepped as is typical of this type only the base of the headloop remains due to ancient damage. Two bands of incised vertical grooves decorate the steps.

A small copper alloy Colchester derivative, Polden Hill brooch of Roman date,AD 75-175.
The object is almost complete and would have been a sprung example. The bow is comma-shaped in profile, D-shaped in section, and tapers to an incomplete rounded foot. The wings are semi-cylindrical. The bow rises from the top of the wings sweeping in an arc towards the foot. The outer face of the bow is decorated with a linear ridge which runs down each side.

A complete copper alloy late Roman strap end nail cleaner. The object is sub-triangular in plan and flat, tapering in width to a bifurcated terminal at one end. In the centre of the object is a circular perforation either side are a pair of opposing crescent shaped lugs. Above the central perforation the object widens to form a sub-rectangular attachment end, the top of which is perforated with another hole which is in line with the central hole.

A copper alloy trumpet brooch of Hull Type 157C dating to the Roman period. The brooch is nearly identical to an example in Hattatt (1989, p. 327, Fig. 186, no. 1528). The head end of the bow expands outward in a typical 'trumpet-like' form with a broadly D-shaped cross-section. The object tapers in thickness from the head curving down towards the leg of the brooch. The foot is missing. Copper alloy Colchester derivative brooch dating to the Roman period. The bow is comma-shaped in profile, D-shaped in section, and tapers to a rounded foot. The wings are semi-cylindrical. The bow rises from the top of the wings sweeping in an arc towards the foot. The brooch is undecorated. To the rear of the object the spring, pin and catchplate are missing. An incomplete copper-alloy Roman harness fitting. The object is strap-mounted and skirted terret ring. It is missing the top of the hoop and the point of the 'skirt' due to old breaks. At the top of the object is the integral hoop, which is sub-oval in section. The hoop would have acted as a rein guide. Beneath the hoop is the flaring skirt, which is lozenge shaped in plan, and folded along its centre at an angle of 45 degrees to give an inverted V-shaped profile with the hoop along the central ridge.

A copper alloy bow brooch of the Wirral type dating to the Roman period. The object is a hinged example. The head is stepped as is typical of this type and is incomplete due to ancient breaks. The headloop is incomplete. Two of the steps are decorated with a series of incised vertical grooves.

The head is decorated with two circumferential ridges just below the incomplete head plate which curve to join in the centre. The decoration is worn and difficult to interpret with certainty. A copper alloy dragonesque brooch of Roman date. The object consists of an S-shaped plate with moulded relief decoration. Each end of the S-shaped plate has an expanded trumpet-like terminal. The terminals are decorated with a band of pellets either side of a ridge. In line with each terminal the centre of the object expands in thickness and is also decorated with a line of pellets with a linear ridge either side. A copper alloy twisted wire bracelet of Roman date. The bracelet is formed from a copper alloy shank with flattened terminals around which copper alloy wire is tightly wound. Jones & Miket 1984, Type 14.
The shank measures 4.5mm in diameter and is oval in cross-section. Each terminal expands to 5mm in width due to being hammered flat. The end of one terminal curves upwards however the corresponding curve on the other terminal is incomplete. The wire which wraps around the shank is a single piece which is looped around 47 times.
