An incomplete copper alloy trumpet brooch dating to the Roman period. The brooch has atypical oval or 'trumpet' shaped head. The bow tapers in width down the bow where it terminates with an ancient break above the foot. In the centre of the bow is an oval waist moulding consisting of a raised central ridge, bordered by a ridge on each side and another ridge both above and below. An incomplete Roman copper alloy oval gilded plate brooch dating to c AD 200-350. The brooch is very worn and is missing the pin. The central 'gem' is complete but scratched. The brooch is oval with two incomplete gilded zones of decoration around a central black glass oval stone which is conical rising to a point in the centre. A copper alloy mount probably dating to the Roman period. The object is ciruclar in plan with a flat undecorated reverse. The front of the obejct is decorated with a raised moulded face, possibly depicting Medusa. The oval face has a rounded chin, full lips and a rounded projecting nose. The eyes a worn but appear to be sunken. The hair is moulded in the form of wavy strands which run down to the chin. An incomplete copper alloy composite rotary key dating to the Roman period, (c. 150-c. 410). The key has an incomplete openwork handle which terminates with a break along the projections of the handle frame. The socket is square-sectioned and cylindrical inside.Each face of the socket has moulded parallel ribs and grooves as decoration.The depth of the cylinder within the remaining socket is 16mm and is 13mm in diameter. An incomplete copper alloy bow brooch of the Wirral type dating to the Roman period. The object is a hinged example. The head is stepped but damaged and the headloop is missing. The upper bow is decorated with three raised vertical panels which contain cells. Each cell is empty or contains patches of enamel. Each cell would have been filled with alternating colours of bright enamel forming a chequerboard pattern. Below the panels is a raised rounded knop.
