Description:
A complete gold and enamelled ‘fede’ ring dating to the post medieval period (c.AD 1650-1750).
The band is decorated with three pairs of clasped hands. The hands are mostly covered in opaque white enamel. Each hand projects from an elaborate lace-like ruffed cuff. The cuffs represent three rolls ruff which are each covered in a pale green enamel. Between the pairs of hands, the band is elaborately decorated with a woven motif, forming an interlaced figure of 8, reminiscent of some heraldic knots.

A gold mourning ring. Treasure case: 2017 T450.
A Post-Medieval gold mourning ring. The bezel is round in plan and holds a rock crystal through which can be seen a gold wire monogram of two letters (IR) surmounted by a crown and all contained within a gold wire border. The underside of the bezel features a series of flutes decorated with black and white enamel.
The shoulders of the hoop are decorated with black enamelling in a simple foliate design. The remainder of the hoop, interior and exterior, is plain, though distorted.

A Post-Medieval gold posy ring. The outside of the hoop is decorated with a foliate design. The inside of the hoop bears the inscription 'If love can merit' 'I Shall in herit'. In between these two lines there appears to be a maker's mark which could be 'SV' or an incomplete 'SW'.

A Post-Medieval gold signet finger-ring fragment. Most of the hoop is now missing although the bezel remains intact. The finger-ring shows a coat of arms which Dr Clive Cheeseman (Richmond Herald, College of Arms) has described as "being made up of a shield and a crest, with helmet and full mantling engraved in what appears to be a 17th century style.
