A complete lead alloy medieval pilgrim's ampulla roughly from AD 1350-1530. The bowl is semi-circular in plan and the neck possibly was ovoid in cross section but is now distorted. The bowl is decorated with a radial eight lobed design, possibly a flower, the four larger lobes having the smaller ones nestled between them. Each other the large lobes is divided end to end by a central vein. Two loop handles are present to either side of the neck. Ampullae were made for sale to pilgrims visiting pilgrimage sites and would be filled with holy water or other substances. Similar examples…

A copper alloy scabbard chape dating from the late Medieval or early Post-Medieval period, AD 1475-1600. The chape is a sub-shield shape in plan. The upper edge has a 'W' shape created by the removal of two V-shaped notches. Below this is a cast raised transverse ridge. The base of the chape is smooth and undecorated. A copper alloy buckle of Medieval date. The object is oval in plan with two projecting terminals at either end. Each terminal curves upwards towards the buckle frame, terminating with a zoomorphic head. The terminals form the head of an animal, possibly a snake and has a ridged brow, raised pellet eyes to each side of the top of the head and rounded snout. On the rear of the object on opposite sides of the oval frame are two notches, set at right-angles to projections. These notches would have supported a strap bar. A portion of a medieval strap end, heavily silver gilted. Only a small amount of copper corrosion shows through to reveal a base metal core. The upper surface on the tongue is decorated with interlocking curvilinear patterns confined to the fields between three thicker ridges. The tail is more worn but has evidence of a pattern beginning near the 'throat' of the object. The underside is plain except for what appears to be a join line between the two sections of metal.
