A cast copper-alloy staff terminal of early medieval to medieval date. The terminal is circular in form, rectangular in section, hollow and with a short integrally cast rectangular socket projecting from its base. It has openwork decoration on both sides consisting of six evenly spaced sub-oval perforations arranged around a central projecting knop. On both sides between and around these perforations there are punched ring and dot motifs. When viewed under a microscope very faint traces of possible gilding survive on both faces. A cast copper-alloy Roman mount or strap end. The mount is 25mm long and is waisted across the centre by a transverse groove. On one side of this waist the object has a convex lunulate terminal and on the other a convex trilobed lozenge shape. The reverse of the piece is slightly concave, and an integral rivet, 6mm long, projects from the centre of the lozenge. The object is 14.8mm wide, 4.5mm thick (excluding rivet) and weighs 4.11g. An incomplete and worn cast copper-alloy Early-Medieval strap end of Thomas Class A. It is missing most of the attachment end due to old breaks and has extremely worn surfaces. The strap end is sub-oval in shape with convex sides, tapering to a decorative zoomorphic terminal. The terminal has a rounded snout above which are possible eyes and elongated oval shaped ears with punched dots and crescentic decoration. An incomplete sheet copper-alloy buckle plate of Medieval date. It is missing the attachment end and lower plate due to old breaks. The plate is rectangular in form with rectangular frame recesses and pin slot. It is decorated on each edge of the front face with double rows of punched opposing triangles. The surviving plate measures 21.75mm in length, 14.32mm in width, 0.56mm in thickness, and weighs 0.88g. This is a buckle plate of Medieval date similar to examples noted from London (for example Egan and Pritchard, 1991: nos. 303, 502, 504) and dates to the 13th or 14th centuries AD.
