A gold loop, bent up at two sides to form a V-shaped ring. The wire from which the loop is formed is circular in cross-section, polished smooth but showing a few scratches and hammer marks. There are some flattened areas on the internal surfaces, either from wear or from the manufacturing process. Total diameter: 19.9-20.4mm; Diameter in cross-section: 2.8-2.9mm; Weight: 8.6g. An incomplete copper-alloy Colchester one-piece brooch of Late Iron Age to early Roman date (early to mid 1st century). The brooch has parallel-sided concave wings, both of which are broken; the remaining head is 15.2mm wide. From the centre of the head's underside projects part of the rearward lug. Description: The fragment represents a short section of an Iron Age gold alloy torc or bracelet comprising two wires, circular in cross-section, twisted together. The wires are facetted along their length, suggesting they were forged out from a square section rod before being hammered into a more circular cross-section.
