Cast copper-alloy toy cannon. Post-medieval, c. 17th-18th century. Length: 40.l9mm; width: 17.4mm; mass: 14.7g. Cast in one piece with a tapering circular sectioned cascabel with a button which is circular in section and sub-oval in plan. The tapering, circular sectioned breech flares out at the end. There is a vent at the cascabel end, between two circumferential mouldings. There is a third, wide, circumferential mouldings towards the centre of the breech, with a trunnion projecting from either side. Similar toy cannons are included in "Toys, Trifles and Trinkets", Egan, 2005, p.79-84.

Circumstances of discovery
The Staffordshire hoard was discovered on the 5th of July, 2009 by Mr Terry Herbert while metal detecting on arable land (now set down to grass) at a site in Staffordshire, land owned and farmed by Mr Fred Johnson. After five days detecting on the site Mr Herbert contacted Mr Duncan Slarke, the local Finds Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquities Scheme. Mr Slarke subsequently visited the finder at his home and prepared an initial list of 244 bags of finds. These were taken to Birmingham Museum and HM Coroner informed. Cast copper-alloy S-shaped fastener. Post-medieval. S-shaped in plan with a moulded ?dragon's head and neck at each end, and a quadrilobed moulding in the centre. One of the heads almost touches the central moulding, forming a loop which encloses two joined rings. There are traces of a white metal coating visible on the surface of the fastener. Cast copper-alloy Wirral brooch. Roman period (c. 1st-2nd C AD). Length: 48.4mm, width: 9.7mm, depth: 17.1mm, mass: 11.6g. The front of the head is stepped and decorated with horizontal grooves. On the back of the head there is a horizontal ridge housing the iron axial rod, with a central vertical slot for the pin.
