A complete cast silver Roman ring with an oval cornelian in the bezel c. 3rd century AD. The loop has prominent angles/keels, above are triangular shoulders. The ring aperture is slightly ovoid, with a ‘D’ shaped profile. The oval cornelian sits within a broadly octagonal bezel (17.8mm x 15mm). The charioteer is driving a biga (a two-horse chariot) to the left, and is more unusual, depicting Cupid rather than the more commonly found Victory variation. A fragment of a cast copper-alloy Roman developed T-shaped brooch dating to c. AD 50 – 150. The surviving brooch consists of the upper section of the wings and the upper section of the bow. A fragment of the pin remains attached to the axial bar within the long wings of the cross bar. The bow is D-shaped in cross-sectioned and is slightly arched. A cast copper-alloy Bronze Age (early Iron Age) axe fragment c. BC 800 – 600. The fragment consists of a quadrant part of the mouth, the attachment loop and a part of the body, excluding the blade section. The mouth has a double mouth moulding with the feintest trace of a vertical ridge, extending down the front of the casting. A cast incomplete Roman zoomorphic fragment of a handle from a folding knife dating to c. AD 43 - 410. The handle is in the form of the ‘Hare and Hound’ type but in this case, the castings are much more angular and ‘stylistic’ than life like. The fragment consists of the Hare with the Hound caught onto the Hare’s tail. The underside has the remnants/stains of what was, a ferrous blade in situ. Incomplete cast copper alloy Colchester one-piece brooch of Late Iron Age to early Roman date c. AD 25 – 60. The head is broken, and the plain bow has a sharp angle with a partly trapezoidal cross section and tapers to a point. the catch plate is eroded away to leave just a feint trace of its location. Rim sherd - from a Roman wheel thrown mortarium (oxidised Seven Valley ware?) with a dropped flange, c. AD 100 - 350. The fabric is orange throughout. Two copper-alloy Roman coins, probably both nummi, now fused together. The obverse of one coin is legible and is a nummus of Arcadius (AD 383-408), probably dating to the period c.AD 388-402 (Reece period 21). A possible reverse type is visible on the opposite face of the second coin, perhaps with remains of a legend reading [V?](IC?)[TORIA AVGGG?], but this is unclear due to the preservation of the objects.
