A gold Half Laurel of James I c. 1603 - 1625 AD. Third coinage, laureate & armoured bust left, with 'X' behind head. The reverse has the crowned arms quartered by long cross fourchee. The coin is in fair condition with some modest fritting to the rim and probable light clipping. The mintmark is probably a trefoil.

A fragment of a post-medieval silver sixpence of James I dated (AD) 1621. Thistle initial mark. The coin from the third coinage with the sixth bust and a thistle mintmark, consistent with the date. The obverse has the bust facing right with VI in the field behind the bust. The reverse has the date (1621) above the shield. The coin has lost around 40% of the flan and has signs of having been in a fire with melted metal edges. North N2126.

A hammered silver sixpence of James I dated 1608. The coin is from the second coinage era and has the fourth bust, with a coronet mintmark, consistent with the date. The obverse has the bust facing right with VI in the field behind the bust. The reverse has the date (1608) above the shield. Unusually, this coin has the letter 'O' missing from the reverses CONIVNXIT - The coin is lightly pitted and heavily worn with some probable clipping to the rim. North N2103.

A hammered silver half groat of James I ( 1603-25). The obverse has a rose with the large crown above, the reverse has the thistle with crown above. Both sides have the rose mintmark further defining the date of this coin to the second coinage 1604-19 and the rose mm gives 1605-6. The coin is well worn with some clipping to the rim.

The obverse has the portrait bust right with XII in the field behind, the reverse has the square top and quartered royal shield. The coin has been centrally struck and is in fair condition with some limited chips and clipping to the rim.

This is a hammered silver shilling of James I (1603-25). This example has a 'Lis' mintmark and the reverse legend beginning -EXURGAT-, dating the coin to the first coinage of 1603-4. The obverse has a bust facing right with the roman XII in the field behind the bust. The reverse has the square-topped royal shield. The coin has some slight edge damage and apart from the portrait being worn away, it is in good condition.

This is a post medieval hammered silver shilling from the reign of James I (1603-25). The coin has a clear thistle mintmark on the obverse, refining the date to 1603-4. The obverse carries the King's bust (first bust style) facing right with square cut beard and XII in field behind the head. The reverse has the square topped royal shield. The coin is worn and has some limited clipping to the rim.

This is what remains of a probable James I (1603-25) hammered silver sixpence. The coin is so badly worn and damaged, that further identification is now virtually impossible. The letters VI can just be made out on the obverse to the left of the portrait and given the possible remnants of the obverse legend, the coin may be of the first or second bust variety. None of the reverse legend can be reliably be read. The damage may be due to fire.

Here we have a silver penny of James I, most probably from the second period coinage (1604-19). This coin does not bear the crown, the mintmark is indeterminate and it has a pierced flan. Judging by the wear to the piercing, the coin was pierced in antiquity.
