A medieval hammered silver cut halfpenny of Henry III (1216-72). As a voided long cross variant, the coin may be dated to 1247-72. The obverse has the crowned bust facing and the reverse has a voided long cross with three pellets to each quarter. The moneyer is WILLEM and given the coin is Henry III, possibly type Vg - the possible mints would be London or Canterbury. The reverse is struck a little off centre and the rim has been clipped.

A hammered silver post medieval type 3 Soldino from the city state of Venice, circa 1501-1521. The obverse legend is LE LAV DVX S M V (Leonardo Lauredan, Doge. St Mark of Venice.). and depicts the Doge holding banner and kneeling before St Mark. (DVX partially visible in exergue) The reverse has the standing figure of Christ facing, haloed and holding cross with the legend - LAVS TIBI SOLI (Praise to Thee Alone). The coin is in fair condition with the reverse being struck slightly off-centre, there is no sign of clipping.

A hammered silver short cross cut halfpenny probably of Henry II (1154-1189). The short cross issue further defines to 1180-89. The obverse has the crowned bust facing with sceptre in right hand and the reverse a voided short cross with quatrefoil in each angle. Based on the moneyer REINIER who operated from the Winchester mint, the coin is most probably Henry II. The coin is centrally struck with no sign of clipping.

A cast copper alloy medieval sewing ring probably dating to the 15th century. The ring has ovoid indentations that spiral up the whole surface of the ring. Similar sewing rings can be found in Brian Read, History Beneath Our Feet- p76, No. 436. The surface has a mottled green/brown patina.

A copper 'Royal Farthing' of Charles I (1625-49). The obverse has a crown with two sceptres in saltire and the reverse has the crowned harp. The rim has a missing section at the 12 o-clock which has obfuscated the mintmark. Although the coin is in poor condition, much of the detail remains. The surface has a green/brown patina and the rim is damaged and split with the reverse being struck slightly off centre.

A hammered silver half groat of James I ( 1603-25). The obverse has a rose with the large crown above, the reverse has the thistle with crown above. Both sides have the rose mintmark further defining the date of this coin to the second coinage 1604-19 and the rose mm gives 1605-6. The coin is well worn with some clipping to the rim.

A copper alloy struck Roman coin of uncertain type and date. The coin is very heavily corroded and with little definition remaing. That which does is on the obverse where the barest outline of a portrait can be seen, however, identification of the ruler is unlikely. Based on size, the coin is probably a Sestertius from the 2nd or 3rd century AD.

The reverse, were it not for the wear to this coin, depicted Britannia seated left, holding branch and spear. The coin is heavily eroded with a dark green/brown patina.

A small lead alloy bi-conical decorated spindle whorl of indeterminate date. The whorl was found in an area where medieval and post medieval coins have been found and thus we may perhaps assume that date range for this whorl. Each side of the whorl is decorated with random angular lines forming triangles and chevrons. The central hole has a diameter of 9.5mm. The surface has the typical pale cream/grey lead oxide patina.

This is a collection of four lead weights, probably from the medieval to post medieval period. In use they resemble the medieval fishing weights described in the 'The archaeology of medieval fishing tackle' by J M Steane and M Foreman - page 97. A lead alloy cast bi-conical medieval to post medieval decorated spindle whorl. Always difficult to date, this whorl came from an area that has produced artefacts from the noted period although an earlier date cannot be ruled out. This whorl has a typical zigzag to one surface and simple radial/parallel lines to the other. The central hole is 10.5mm in diameter and the surface has the typical cream/grey lead oxide patina.

A cast copper alloy fragment of a probable terret ring, perhaps dated from the late Iron Age to early Roman. (100BC - 150AD). A small section of side arm remains and appears to have the junction with the skirt - possibly with lappet decoration. The remaining strap bar has a circular cross section and the complete ring would have been about 55mm in diameter. The surface is heavily corroded with a mid to dark green patina.

A small cast lead alloy bi-conical spindle whorl of indeterminate date. The whorl is roughly cast with what might be the remnants of the casting sprue still in place. The surface appears to have been cast with a zigzag decorative feature and it is now encrusted by a pale cream lead oxide. The central hole has a diameter of 8.95mm. As the find area has only thrown up other coins/artefacts of a medieval to post medieval date, this whorl may be from that same period.
