Medieval button; cast lead alloy button of possible 14th or 15th century date. The button is a large, circular disc with moulded decoration on one face. The decoration is in the form of a central pellet surrounded by a circle. This circle has a line running from each side to the edge, forming a cross. There are then four curves, one in each interstice of the cross, which are joined to the cross by short lines about halfway along each arm of the cross. The matrix is of pointed oval shape and has a central device of a feather, leaf or ear of corn, with a further stylised leaf attached to either side, forming a lys-type motif. The inscription around the edge reads S’hVGONIS FIL WIVET, which may translate as ‘Seal of Hugo, son of Wivet’ or similar. Modern ring; cast lead alloy joke finger ring of probable 20th century date. The ring is crudely cast with a broad band and a flattened area at the bezel. The bezel is quatrilobed with rough moulded decoration of lines and loops. The band has a hollow ridge running along the length of the centre of it which extends into a little knop at the back of the ring. This knop could be attached to a rubber bulb full of water which would be hidden in the palm of the hand. Modern seal; impressed lead alloy bag seal, or similar, with a coin of George III used as seal matrix. The seal is a large, horizontal oval of lead with a short sprue extending down from the bottom of the oval. The object is broken off at the bottom of the sprue. The front face of the seal bears the reversed impression of a coin, judging from the size (approx. 28.5mm diameter) and inscription this seems to be a halfpenny of George III, dated 1806. It has a rounded face with heavy brows and eyes, a wide flattened nose and thick lips, slightly parted. The cheeks and chin are also well-defined. There are flecks on the back of the head to indicate short hair and there is a prominent band around the head, moulded in high relief.
