A complete cast lead-alloy medieval pilgrim's ampulla. The ampulla is decorated bifacially on the lower chamber. On one side is a quatrefoil flower, the other a crowned heart with fine cross-hatching within a linear border. This motif, or similar, has been found on ampullae found in Salisbury (Spencer 1990, 91; ref. 186), London, Maltby Springs, Lincs., and Brandon in Suffolk (ibid., 60; ref. 132), and in many other locations besides (the Salisbury example has been referenced a number of times on this database). It is thought perhaps to relate to Bromholm Priory, Norfolk.
