A fragment of a copper alloy Roman figurine dating to the period c. AD 43 - 410. Only the hand survives and is broken off at the wrist. The break at the wrist meaasures 7.25mm in width and is 5.6mm thick. The hand is holding a rectangular box with an open lid. The raised lid is slightly bent. The fingers are wrapped around the box and pointing upwards. The box contains incence depicted as numerous circular projections. The fragment is similar to the hand of a complete figurine of a genius or priest in the British Museum. (Pers. comms. Ralph Jackson) C.f. Watters, H. B, Catalogue…
