2012 T168 Report on three Post-medieval coins from Dodderhill, Worcestershire These coins could certainly have been in currency together in the mid to late 1640s, since the issues of Elizabeth I and James I show extensive signs of usage. Given this, the absence of other coin loss on the site and the fact that they were found in close proximity, it is probable that they were deposited together. A near complete copper-alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (flat wing ends type), cf. Mackreth 2011, 5.a3. Plate 50. Roman date (80-120AD). In plan, the brooch is T-shaped, and semi-circular in cross section. The bow head is humped and angular in profile, with cylindrical wings projecting from either side at the top. A corroded incomplete Late Iron Age/ early Roman (AD 20-80) copper- alloy Colchester one-piece brooch missing most of the catchplate. The wings are flat and rectangular are 15.25mm wide. No decoration is visible on the bow. Behind the wings, the undamaged spring chord is held by a forward-facing hook, the pin is bent inwards. The catchplate is mostly missing The brooch is 51.25mm long and weighs 8.2g.

An incomplete Roman (AD 43-70) copper-alloy tinned Hod Hill brooch,consisting of the bow, foot and catchplate only. The wings of the brooch are missing. The bow is bent inwards at the old break before expanding outwards slightly towards the two knops. The left side knop is missing but the right side knop survives. A fragment of Roman (AD 43-70) copper alloy Hod Hill type brooch, consisting of damaged wings and top of bow only. The slightly worn wings, c.17.95 mm in width have a recess in the centre for the pin, the brooch tapers towards the bow which is 10.7mm in width and curves forward slightly below the curled forward wings. The bow is decorated with a horizontal ridge with two veritcal ribs below. The jagged break is old. The brooch is 21.75mm in length, 17.1mm wide, 3.5mm thick and weighs 2.3 grams. A fragment of a copper-alloy Roman gem set (intaglio) finger ring. The fragment consists of a section of the sub-oval bezel and shoulder . The break across the bevel of the ring reveals the cross section of the gem (lost) which has a flat base and slightly curved sides. The shoulder has decoration consisting of two transverse incisions forming a V above two horizontal incisions. There is no evidence for other material, such as organic adhesive in the setting. The metal is a mid green colour. The ring is 14.2mm in length, 12.5mm wide, 2.65mm thick and weighs 1.6 grams.

A complete slightly worn amber bead of uncertain date. The bead which in circular in plan and oval in cross section thickens towards the centre. The surface is chipped in places. The central perforation is c.3.6mm. The bead has a diameter of 24.4mm, it is 19.2mm thick and weighs 6.8 grams. Amber beads are very difficult to date. They are reasonably common from Bronze Age to Early Medieval contexts.

A complete post-Medieval to Modern cast copper-alloy "toy" cannon of probable eighteenth to nineteenth century date (c. 1750-c. 1850). The toy is described as if it were a functioning cannon. The cascable (or cascabel) and the cascable button has a length of about 8.65m. The base ring diameter is 7.7mm. A slightly corroded and damaged cast copper-alloy Roman Trumpet brooch dating to the second century AD. The majority of the brooch survives, with the exception of the pin. A group of 3,874 Roman radiates within a Severn Valley Ware narrow mouthed storage jar dating from the Emperor Philip II to the Emperor Probus (244-282 AD). A corroded slightly bent but complete cast lead-alloy medieval pilgrim's ampulla. The artefact is flask-shaped, with a rounded, semi-circular lower chamber. The upper half is sub-trapezoidal, expanding at the top (W.: 31.05mm). The top is creased together, and twisted slightly. The bending is the result of old damage, although the creasing may have resulted from an historic sealing of the vessel. An incomplete and abraded handaxe of probable Palaeolithic date. In plan the axe is broadly triangular in plan. In cross section the axe has a clear humped shape. The axehead is bi-facially worked although some of the flakes on both the dorsal and ventral faces are invasive with hinge fractures suggesting they are a result of uncontrolled 'natural flaking' through movement in the soil.
