A copper-alloy fragment, probably from an Iron Age to Roman terret ring. The piece represents a small proportion of the ring but included the diagnostically significant portion of outward-projecting ornament formed of two sub-circular plates which are arranged to form a 'V-shape'. The inner surface of each plate is convex and bears two circular cells which originally would have been enamelled but due to corrosion no traces remain. A decorative mount which is now hook shaped but it is not clear whether this was the approximate original shape or whether the object has become distorted. The mount consists of a strip of copper alloy. The terminal ends are tongue shaped, the decorated end being flattened and having a hole of circa 3mm diameter, presumably for attachment. An interesting buckle plate consisting of 4 parts: 1. The principal part of the plate is formed by a strip of copper alloy bent in two with a gap at the fold, like that on a modern hairpin, to receive the buckle frame and pin (now both missing). Three tectangular notches have been cut into the folded edge; a central pin slot to locate the pin and a further two frame recesses cut into the corners to receive the buckle frame.
