Post Medieval to Modern copper alloy firearm buttplate. Probably from a musket or shotgun, but possibly from a rifle. The exterior face is convex in section but concave in profile. There are two perforation to allow fixing with screws, and the remains of a retaining tab at an approximate right angle with the rest of the plate. Buttplates were affixed to the ends of firearm stocks to reinforce them and stop the wood splitting. Dates to between c1700 and c1950 AD.
Length 124mm, width 48mm, thickness 1.5mm, and weight 109.64g.

Post medieval cast copper alloy sword hanger dates to between c1550 and c1700 AD. The suspension loop is intact, projecting from the top edge at right angles to the plane of the inverted shield shaped plate. The outer face of the plate is decorated with swags and scrolls. It may originally have been gilded. The remains of the three attaching rivets can be seen on the reverse of the plate. Possibly a relic of the Civil War.

Object type: SWORD
Broad period: ROMAN

A complete cast copper-alloy hollow sword pommel (or large knife/dagger) of probable Medieval or possible Roman date. Oval in plan and flattened oval in section, with a central hole for the tang of the weapon. On one face the opening of the perforation is circular and has a diameter of 8mm. On the opposite face the opening is a patially rounded square and has a length and width originally of 5mm. No exact parallel for the pommel has been found so it has been broadly dated between c1000 to c1400 AD, or possibly c50 to c410 AD.
The length is 42mm, width 29mm, thickness 19mm, and the w…

Object type: POWDER MEASURE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Warwickshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Probably a Post Medieval cast lead or lead alloy top off a powder horn or flask. There are the remains of two opposite loops at the open end. The position of the loops means that if the object is a powder flask cap then it was unlikely to be suspended from a bandolier. It has rouletted banded decoration (possibly measures) on the sides and an eight spoked 'wheel' decoration on the top. The decoration suggests this would be more likely to be from a hunting gun than a military one. Dates between AD c1600 and c1800, but most probably c1650 to c1700.
The thickness is 17mm, diameter 25mm…

Object type: STRAP FITTING
Broad period: MODERN
County: Warrington
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Copper alloy Victorian part of a British army belt closure.
This consists of a circular plate with a rectangular bar attached on the back which has broken. The front of the circular plate has a lion above a crown.
It would have been fitted (by a part now missing) to one end of a leather belt. It would have passed through a circular aperture on the other end of the belt to firmly lock the two ends together.
The general style, and the shape of the crown, suggest that this is Victorian: perhaps 1860 - 1900.
