Cast copper alloy post-medieval (Georgian) sub-rectangular shoe buckle with rounded ends and a drilled frame for a separate spindle. The loop chape is broken although would have had two internal spikes and the pitchfork tongue is present. Shoe buckles increased in size after 1720 and after 1770 the fixing arrangements became more elaborate with a double looped chape, therefore it is probable that this example dates between 1720 and 1770.

Cast copper-alloy spectacle buckle. Medieval to Early Post-Medieval in date. Plain with no decoration. This example is fairly crudely finished. Strap bar is in tact and slightly recessed from the edge of the frame. Due to their continued use and abundance from the mid 14th to late 17th centuries these buckles can be hard to date out of context (Whitehead 2003 page 52).
