A complete Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead weight, circa AD1400 - AD1800. A conical roughly cast multi-facetted weight with a lozenge shaped central/vertical perforation. The lozenge shaped perforation measures 4.0mm x 3.7mm at the flat base and tapers to 2.2mm x 2.3mm at the cone's apex. The object measures 22.0mm in height, has a base diameter of 14.6mm, weighs 18.5g (c.0.65oz), and is in good condition. For a similar example see database, NCL-947053.

A complete Medieval to Post-Medieval cast lead weight, circa AD1400 - AD1800. A conical, roughly cast - multifacetted weight, which has a horizontal perforation starting 2.2mm from its apex. This tiny perforation is sub-circular with a diameter c.1.3mm. The weight measures 26.3mm in height, has a base diameter of 15.3mm, and weighs 30.1g (c.1.1oz). The surface is white in colour, and the object is in good condition. Compare with PAS record NCL-947053.

A complete Medieval to Post-Medieval cast lead unifaced weight, circa AD1200 - AD1800. Originally circular, the weight has been squashed from two sides leaving it almost oval to kidney-shaped. Traces of its original surface design are legible - a solid cross, the arms extending to the edge of the artefact, with a single pellet (diameter c.4.7mm) in each angle, and a small dome-shaped pellet in its centre (diameter c.8.8mm). A complete medieval or post-medieval cast lead weight. It is small and sub-conical, with tapering sides and a domed convex top. In the centre of the top is an iron suspension loop, now bent flat against the upper surface.The weight measures 11.1mm in height, has a base diameter of 15.8mm, and it weighs 14.1g. It is creamy white in colour, and is in fair condition. There are several similar but much larger weights on the PAS database. SF-B07B17, SF-EA46A8, SUR-8D1681 and CORN-768F78. They have been dated to various periods from Roman to post-medieval.

A complete Post-Medieval cast lead discoidal weight, circa AD1500 - AD1800. A thin, circular, flat weight with decoration of three raised concentric rings on one surface, the other side being blank. There are small areas of white corrosion on the decorated surface. The weight measures 32.7mm in diameter, it has a thickness of 4.1mm, and weighs 32.2g (c.1.14oz). It is in fair condition although one edge of the disc has been flattened, presumably through later damage. Similar examples to be found on the database are :- NMS-359184, PUBLIC-FD4EC4 and PUBLIC-FF01F6.

It has an intact iron suspension loop at its top, and measures 36.7mm in height (including loop), has a diameter of 28.8mm, and weighs 114.5g. The weight is in fair condition. Two complete Post Medieval cast lead weights. They are tubular, both with a central perforation of 4.6mm diameter. Widest at their mid-length point, they taper from there towards their ends. Popularly recorded as line or net sinkers, these two examples are in good condition. Their measurements are:- A. Length 30.3mm, diameter 19.4mm, and weight 60.6g. B. Length 26.7mm, diameter 17.5mm, and weight 42.6g.

Three complete cast lead weights, short and tubular with a central perforation through their length. Widest at their mid-length point, and then tapering slightly to each end. Found in close proximity to each other, they are in good condition. Often known as net sinkers or line sinkers, they may be fishing weights and are hard to date. Measurements below: A. Length 29.4mm, diameter 14.9mm, weight 33.9g, perforation diameter 6.1mm. B. Length 29.3mm, diameter 15.3mm, weight 37.5g, perforation diameter 6.0mm. C. It is a circular flat object with two adjacent perforations in a central depression, to allow sewing to the hem of a skirt, curtains etc. The weight measures 26.1mm diameter, thickness 3.0mm, and weighs 16.5g. Slightly bent on the edge,but in otherwise fair condition. A similar weight may be seen on the PAS database at NLM-927FA0.

It measures 34.1mm diameter, has a thickness of 6.2mm, and weighs 47.3g. In good condition. This may be a spindle whorl, but the perforation is rather narrow. Lead spindle whorls are dated broadly to the medieval or early post-medieval period. If it is some other kind of weight it may be later.

A complete, probably post-medieval cast lead weight or gaming piece,circa 1650 AD - 1850 AD. A flat, circular lead disc, with three well spaced perforations on a diametric line. There are incised lines radiating from the central hole in a sun-burst pattern. On the reverse surface the letter F has been crudely marked. The object measures 36.7mm in diameter, has a thickness of 5.7mm, and weighs 46.2g. In fair condition. Compare the similar but larger SF-54FE95, which is dated from its mass to the late medieval or post-medieval period.

The weight measures 26.5mm long, has a diameter of 18.4mm, and weighs 41.5g. White in colour through oxidisation, it is in otherwise good condition. Such weights are very difficult to date and may be of any period from Roman to post-medieval.
