Cast copper alloy Dolphin brooch dating to the 1st century AD. It was hinged but the pin, hinge and catchplate are now missing. There is a gap in the wings where the axis bar would have fitted. It has a slightly unusual design- the head is very wide. At the top of the bow there is a circular boss, this may have had some enamel on but it has all gone now. The bow narrows towards the foot.

Cast copper alloy bow brooch, probably a Dolphin type, dating to the second half of the first century. The pin is missing and the catchplate is broken. It could have been hinged or sprung, the mechanism is gone. The ends of the wings are broken. There is a casting seam all along the back of the bow. There is a central ridge running the length of the front of the bow. At the end of the bow is a moulded collar before the biconical shaped foot. The surface is uneven due to corrosion, not much of the original surface is left. This makes it hard to see any decoration/pattern.

Cast copper alloy Dolphin brooch dating to c.55-100AD. It is not complete, the bow having broken before the foot and catchplate. The pin is hinged and has broken just after the top. The axis bar is held in enclosed wings. It is quite a small example measuring only 22mm in length and 18mm in width. After the humped top of the bow there is some orange enamel remaining. There is only a small part left so the pattern is not clear.

The head is plain on the front with a ridge around the edge. The headloop is formed from the same chord as the spring and pin. It is held together with a circular decorated collar. It has a central acanthus moulding with a knurled rib above and below. The bow has a rectangular cross section with a frontal central ridge. The foot knob is disc shaped with a central knurled rib.

Copper alloy Dolphin brooch dating from c.55-100 AD. It is hinged but the pin is missing. The wings are cylindrical and quite long. They are made of the 2 sides folding around to form a cylinder. They are decorated with incised lines around the diameter. The top of the bow is slightly humped and there is a raised ridge which runs all the way down. Copper alloy oval Roman disc brooch dating to the 3rd-4th centuries AD (Bayley and Butcher; 2004; 178-9). It is a British type and is gilded with a central setting of black glass. Most of the gilding is still present but it is patchy. The central setting is domed and rises out of the front of the brooch into a point. There is a raised rim around the edge of the brooch and around the glass setting. It could have been hinged or sprung, the pin is missing. The loop for the pin to go through is present but the catchplate is missing.

The surface has a greyish patina and appears to have been either silvered or tinned. It has an 8-coil spring with the pin still fitted into the catchplate. The chord runs underneath the bow and is not held by a hook. The arched upper bow has a central rib which ends at a double disc-shaped moulding. The flatter lower bow is plain and tapers slightly.
