Broad period: IRON AGE

Workflow stage: Published
Button and loop fastener or strap terminal
Fragment of a cast copper-alloy button and loop fastener or strap terminal.
This object comprises only the loop section, which is sub-circular in plan, tapering towards where it would have met the 'button'.
Parallels: This fragment resembles the loops from many other fittings from both the related 1843 hoard and the 2011 assemblage. It is not possible to identify the form of the original object from this fragment, but it is highly likely that it formed part of a button and loop fastener (cf Wild 1970) or strap terminal (cf MacGregor 1962).

Gilded copper alloy chain mail armour hook, broken into two pieces. When complete, this would have been an S-shaped object in plan, with circular terminals, one of a pair which together would have formed a hinged lyre-shaped fitting (see M.120). The smaller fragment consists of one terminal. The rest of the object is complete. The front surface appears to have been gilded, and shows moulded decoration. There is a raised moulded band running down the centre of the S-shape, with a hatched central line. On either side of this ridge is a line of punched circular motifs. On the circular te…

Workflow stage: Published
Cast copper alloy fragment of a Post Medieval drawer handle.
It has a strip of copper alloy folded over through the top loop, presumably to attach the fitting to the drawer. The main body has a rectangular attachment loop with protruding corners and a raised lower line. It then narrows to a neck, before widening into what would have been a sub-rectangular body with leaf/floriate design on the front. This has broken only a short way down.

Object type: BROOCH
Broad period: ROMAN
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Published
A cast copper alloy Roman knee brooch dating to the period AD 150 to 220.
The brooch is missing the sping, pin and most of the catchplate. It has a cylindrical wing casing which would have held the spring in place. There is a rib below the head. The bow is widest at the knee, narrowing towards the simple rounded foot. The catchplate is broken.
This brooch does not fit particularly well into Butcher and Bayley's knee brooch typology. However, it is perhaps most similar to Type 176a, with its cylindrical wing casing.

Roman copper alloy expanding bracelet made of a single piece of circular sectioned wire, 3rd century in date.
