Cast copper alloy Post Medieval fob seal, mostly likely 19th century in date.
It is made completely of copper alloy, with the seal section being just a flat oval disc of copper alloy (measuring 17.49mm by 14.84mm). The symbol on the seal is a masonic symbol, The Square, Compasses and Letter 'G'. This is one of the most common symbols of the Freemasons. There are varying theories as to what it represents.
The arms of the seal form a robust openwork design with floriate decoration, terminating in a circular attachment loop, set perpendicular to the seal.

Lead Medieval seal matrix, c.1200- 1400.
It was originally vesica shaped but has broken almost in half. It is also bent so that the edges now curve slightly downwards. The central motif appears to be either a corn ear or another plant. The inscription reads 'S'INCH....' So it is a person seal, unfortunately not enough of the legend can be made out to work out who owned it.
On the reverse, near to the top is a small rounded loop, now filled with mud.

A cast copper alloy 13th century seal matrix.
The matrix appears to be in a mix of Latin and French, and reads: *A IESV/DONE/SV - Jesus (or I am) (IESV) given to (DONE) you/one/all (SV) and so can mean either 'this letter is given to you' or 'Jesus is given to you'. The central motif is a bird of prey walking right looking back with wings raised.

Cast copper alloy Medieval vessica shaped seal matrix.
The front of the seal has a central motif with the inscription around the edge. It is mostly complete but the edges are broken and so most of the inscription is missing, the only section remaining reads 'BENED'[ICT..]. The motif is religious in nature, showing a central figure under an arch (probably a saint), meant to represent being inside a church. Underneath is a small figure kneeling and praying to the central figure. The central figure is holding things in both hands but it is not clear exactly what, possibly an o…

A silver seal matrix, the conical handle (with slight hexagonal facets) having broken off; the break appears fresh and granular. The die is slightly oval, being longer than it is wide. It has a grooved and beaded border around a neatly engraved shield of arms, with no inscription. The shield has a flat top, very slightly concave sides, and an ogee curve to the base. Dimensions: Height 8.91 mm. Diameter 18.34 mm Weight 5.3g.
The arms are party per pale (divided in half vertically) with two different sets of arms represented. On the right as you look at the matrix (so on the left-han…

Cast copper alloy Medieval seal matrix, 14th century in date.
Copper alloy circular seal matrix, hexagonal tapering handle with a broken circular suspension loop at top. Device of, in the centre, a twig-like tree with a nest at the top; in this, a bird facing left. Either side of this two figures rather crudely drawn: on the left, a young man in profile facing right, and on the right, a rather long head of a woman in profile facing left, no real details visible. Unfortunately the edge of the seal is missing so no legend remains.
A similar seal matrix is already recorded on…

Copper alloy Georgian fob seal.
The seal appears to be made from pewter or a similar metal, it is on a hinge at the base of the handle and can still swing. The handle curves up to meet at the top where there is a circular loop, set perpendicular to the seal. There is a design on both faces of the seal. One has a male bust facing right. It is not representing a specific person. The other side appears to be a coat of arms or something similar

Silver shield-shaped Medieval seal matrix with a re-used red Roman intaglio set in the centre. The intaglio has come loose, it is sub-circular in plan. The inscription around the edge of the seal reads '+ : SIGILL : SECRETI :'
The ovoid carnelian intaglio is damaged along its left-hand side but the remaining part is very finely engraved with a scene from Homer's Odyssey. To the right is shown the figure of a bearded Ulysses wearing a close fitting cap (pileus) and drapery which covers his torso and extended right leg and hangs behind his back. He is leaning backwards with his weight…

Lead Medieval vessica shaped seal matrix.
Legend reads- 'S'IONIS . FIL W...R' 'Meaning John, son of W....'
Central motif appears to be a pattern of three dots at the base with a possible flower formed from three swirled lines within a border.
On reverse is the remains of an attachment loop at the top. There is also a raised fleur-de-lis decoration which fills the entire reverse.

Cast copper alloy Medieval seal matrix, c.1200-1400.
It has an oval shaped seal face and a handle rising out of this. The face of the seal has the legend around the edge of a central motif. This central image seems to be a face.
The legend is difficult to read, even when an impression was made due to wear. There are two possible readings- S'ECER_IL_SVR______S or S'ELERE_IVEWI.... Either reading shows that it is a personal seal with the S' representing sigillum (Seal of...).

Cast copper alloy Medieval seal matrix from c. 1200- 1400.
It is complete with an off-centre handle wneding is a pointed terminal. There is a central circular hole in the top as an attachment loop. Below the loop is a doubel moulded collar. The handle is hexagonal in section. The seal is circular in plan and is a 'h' with a palm frond next to it.
The surface has possibly been silvered although it is now mostly worn away and there is some surface corrosion so this is difficult to be certain of.

Copper alloy die from a revolving seal matrix of Post-Medieval date.
The die is circular in plan and has an incised/stamped design on both faces. One side consists of a male bust right, possibly meant to have a laureate crown in a classical style although the image is quite crudely done. The other side has a symbol which consists of a large triangle with a curved base, across the middle of which is a V.
There is a hole at opposites sides of the matrix which would have allowed an axis bar to pass through and the die to rotate. The die is made from copper alloy but appears t…

Cast copper alloy base of a Medieval seal matrix.
It has a circular base with incised decoration. This consists of 'IC' with a star above and star below, inside a simple circle. The IC is probably representing Iesu Christo (Jesus Christ).
The seal is broken just at the base of the handle which would have extended upwards and ended in a loop.

Cast copper alloy 18th century fob seal frame. The actual seal die is missing but would have been oval in shape and probably carved glass or gemstone. The frame at the base has a decorated ring which the seal would have sat in. There are then two semicircular arms which curve round to meet above this ring. There is a circular attachment loop set perpendicular to the arms at the top. This sort seal would have hung from a gentleman's chain, a chain that was also used for the suspension of a fob watch.

Cast copper alloy seal matrix from the Medieval period.
It is vessica shaped in plan and is D-shaped in cross section being slightly domed on the reverse.
The legend around the outside possibly reads ' S' PETRE (?D') (?WVE(ci?)RM)'. The image in the centre is unclear but may be a candle.
On the reverse the attachment loop is set at the top but there is a handle which runs down the middle almost to the base.
On the reverse there is quite a bit of corrosion and some of the surface is missing.

Cast copper alloy 18th century fob seal with a glass setting. It is complete with a semi-circular handle which has a circular loop on the top set perpendicular to the handle. This loop is where a chain would have fitted. The surface would have been gilded all over, only fragments of this now remain. The face of the seal is sub-circular and has a male bust facing right.

Cast copper alloy seal matrix from the Medieval period, dating c.1300-1400. It is a conical example and the handle would have ended in an attachment loop. It is incomplete, the handle having broken off leaving only 8mm of it before the base. The edges of the seal have been broken but the circular die is mostly complete. The central design is of a quadruped in profile looking right (on the impression) with a round head and bushy tail, perhaps an ape or monkey. The legend is set between two lines. It is not completely clear due to wear and corrosion, but appears to read * IE SV D--EGIS…

Lead circular seal matrix from the Medieval period, dating to c.12-1400.
The seal is circular and flat with an attachment loop on the reverse which has been squashed. The back is plain but on the front is a design with a legend around the edge. The design is made up of a central circular dot surrounded by 8 radiating lines. They form a pattern almost like a 8 pointed star. 2 of the lines have 2 small projecting arms each close to the terminals. The legend is unclear as the letters are worn. What can be made out is ‘+_MAW_N__M V_…
