Record ID: DUR-D18AB4
Object type: RING
Broad period: IRON AGE
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation
Cast copper alloy circular ring. The ring is circular in cross-section, although wider on one side than on the other, perhaps due to wear. This object is perhaps too small to have been used as a harness fitting, and it is impossible to be sure of its function.
Parallels: Rings like this could be put to many uses, and are found on sites of all periods, so it is impossible to be certain of an Iron Age date for this find. There are no direct parallels from the related 1843 hoard.
Measurements: Thickness: 3.2mm; diameter: 15.9mm; weight: 1.6g

Ring (from harness?)
Cast copper alloy circular ring, with flat upper and lower faces, and facetted edges, giving it an almost hexagonal cross section. This object could have been used as a harness fitting, but it is impossible to be sure of its function.
Parallels: Rings like this could be put to many uses, and are found on sites of all periods, so it is impossible to be certain of an Iron Age date for this find. However, a similar, although slightly larger, ring was also reported as part of the related 1843 material (M.95)

Cast copper alloy ring, possibly a finger ring, of uncertain date.
This ring has a circular cross section apart from a small sectin of c.10mm which is flattened, possibly as a simple bezel.
It is difficult to date rings such as this as such simple forms were used for long periods of time. However the patina of this ring suggests it could be Post Medieval in date.

Silver-tin alloy strip which could be either a ring fragment or part of a strap end.
The strip has been cast and appears to be a fragment of something. It could have been part of a ring which has been flattened or a decoration of a strapend (it is not heavy enough to be a strapend in itself).
The strip is rectangular in plan and narrows slightly at one end. At the narrower end there is some decoration in relief. The decoration consists of a pointed rectangle. The long sides are normal but one end is pointed whilst at the other the lines curl round into two circles. This is possi…
