The decoration is on both sides and includes a perforation for the eye of the bird and an open beak. Red colouring has been used to create the feather decoration. The object is hollow inside and there is a perforation where the body of the bird would have been. Directly opposite this is another perforation at the top of the head of the bird, this measures 10.02mm in length. Cast copper alloy Roman knife handle in three-dimensional form of Minerva. On the back of the head, the crest of the helmet is still visible but it does not continue all the way to the front. It is just a bust and finishes at the waist. There is a slight rise for the breasts and a slight expansion at the waist. The face is very worn and facial features are not visible. The base is straight edged where the missing iron blade would have been attached. None of the blade remains but there are traces of iron corrosion in particular on the reverse. There is a crack on the figure's rig…

Cast copper alloy Roman knife handle, probably from a toilet knife. It is in the form of a female figure, comprising the torso down to the waist. She is facing forward and all the detail seems to have been cast integrally. The head is rounded but the body is flat on the reverse. The hair is quite like that on figurines of Diana with an elaborate arrangement and gathered into a kind of double-bow on top of the head. The hair is picked out with small cresents in vertical lines running from the top of the head to the neck, all around the head. She has pointed oval eyes and a s…

Cast copper alloy knife end-cap of post-medieval date. It is sub-rectangular and flat with a rounded upper edge, and narrows slightly towards the broken end. The broken end has a thin protrusion which presumably would have attached this part to the rest of the handle. It is an openwork design with a thin strip down the centre and possibly a double-headed eagle in the middle below a small incomplete cross. Both faces of the object are decorated with what appears to be foliate style design but this is unclear due to corrosion and wear. There are several similar examples on the PAS

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval rectangular knife stop. It is sub-rectangular in plan and has a central linear groove running the length of the object. There are traces of a red substance on the upper and lower faces which could be enamel but there is no discernible pattern. The knife stop is dark green with irregular patches. The item had been coated in olive oil which gave it the shiny patina noticeable on the image.

Cast copper alloy Post Medieval knife stop. In plan there is a square section which has a T-shaped extension above. The lower square section has a thin iron strip at the base which has broken which would have attached the knife stop to the handle. The object is very worn but it appears that the horizontal terminals of the T-shaped section could be zoomorphic. It is two animals heads facing outwards with mouths slightly open. The object is quite worn and corroded making details difficult to see.

The mane stands above the neck and the hair is picked out by grooved slightly S-shaped lines all the way down. The eye is a circular hollow. The teeth appear bared and the nostril is a circular hollow above the mouth. It has the same design on both faces. It is broken at the base with an uneven line. Cast copper alloy object. Possibly a small hilt from a knife. It is a linear object with rounded ends. There is a widening almost half way along where there is a central perforation. It is very small for a hilt and is not completely symmetrical which may suggest it is not a hilt but this seems the best explanation. The surface is not the original surface, it is very dark and so little detail can be seen on it.
