Object type: WEIGHT
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Oxfordshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A Medieval to Post Medieval cast lead alloy object, probably a weight. The weight is circular in plan with a concentric circular depression on one side forming a wide rim. Since lead is so easy to fabricate lead weights such as this with simple functional designs, have been produced for many centuries. Accordingly, without archaeological context they are difficult to date precisely. A range of circa 1000-1800 is suggested for this example. Dimensions: diameter 45.05mm; thickness 17.95mm.
