The object is a probable sheet patch, which, according to Egan (Egan, G. 1998 The Medieval Household: Medieval Finds from Excavations in London: 6. The Medieval Household Daily Living c.1150-c.1450. Museum of London., p.176, fig.144; no.s, 489 and 494), were used to repair large areas of damage in sheet vessels, for example cauldrons. The sheet is made of cast copper alloy and is incomplete. In plan the sheet is trapezoid shaped while in profile it is slightly curved. The sheet is 114.3mm wide, 63.6mm long and weighs 27.69g. A ridge located near to the centre of the patch ind…

Two adjoining handle fragments from a vessel which dates to the medieval period, or mid thirteenth to sixteenth centuries AD. The fragments are ceramic and are incomplete. In plan the smaller fragment is sub-rectangular while the larger fragment is trapezoid shaped, with uneven sides which flare out to a wide base. The wide base is the point where the handle would have been connected to the main body of the vessel. In cross-section both fragments are sub-oval in shape, while in profile the fragments join together to form a bowed handle, which is sub C-shaped. The material is l…

The object is a probable rim fragment of a cooking vessel which Geake (Geake, H. 2001 Finds Recording Guide, Version 1.1; August 2001) attributed to the mid 13th century to the 17th century. The object is made of cast copper alloy. The object has the remains of a copper alloy rivet which perhaps could indicate that an escutcheon/mount was originally attached. As an example Egan, fig. 146, illustrates a suspended copper alloy vessel with an escutcheon attached to the rim (Egan, G. 1998 The Medieval Household Daily Living c. 1150-c.1450 Museum of London). The object is a base fragment of a probable vessel which Geake (Geake, H. 2001 Finds Recording Guide, Version 1.1; August 2001) attributes to the 13th to 17th centuries. The object is made of cast copper alloy and is incomplete. In plan the object is sub-triangular. All of it edges are obliquely angled due to damage, possibly during breakage (not recent breaks). In cross-section the base is slightly concave and uneven. No carbon deposits are evident on the base of the vessel. Only a small fragment of the body remains, which is undecorated and obliquely angled (more than 90º…

The object is a cast copper alloy vessel leg, which is thought to date to the 13th to 17th centuries. In plan the object is sub-rectangular while in cross-section the object is semi-circular, with a concave front face and a flat reverse. In profile the top of the object where the leg was attached to the vessel, is obliquely angled and slightly concave. Possibly the leg was attached to a rounded vessel such as a cauldron, hence the slightly concave top. The base of the leg has rounded corners due to wear, as the leg does not have a separate foot attached. The leg is undecorated. …

Two cast copper alloy vessel legs, from two separate vessels which are thought to date to the 13th to 17th centuries AD. 1(On the left): Cast copper alloy vessel leg which is trapezoid shaped in cross-section, with a flat front face and alternate angled sides which taper inwards to a flat and narrower reverse face. The object is a possible vessel handle. The object is made of cast copper alloy and is incomplete. In cross-section the object is sub-circular, while in plan the object comprises of a traverse (or longitudinal) piece of copper, which is bent at 45° back under itself. The handle is attached to another piece of copper, which is not part of the handle. Due to heavy abrasion however it is impossible to decipher any distinct shape and what the item may be. The object is 42.7mm long, 31.1mm wide, 8.7mm thick and weighs 26.81mm.

The object is a probable rim fragment from a crucible, which possibly dates to the 15th to 17th centuries, or Late Medieval to Post Medieval (David Symons, Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery). The object is ceramic and is incomplete. The object is light brown-grey in colour with occasional sub-rounded inclusions (less than 10%) of quartz which are less than 2mm in size. The material is also very hard and brittle which suggests that the object has been heated at a very high temperature, either over or in a fire.
