A post-medieval silver sixpence of William III (AD 1694-1702). Description: The coin is a first bust variety. The reverse depicts crowned cruciform shields with large crowns and an early harp. The coin is bent in two places to form an S-shape. It is dated 1696. Measurements: Diameter 21.33mm: Weight 2.72g. Discussion: This coin is probably a 'love-token'. Mint of London. Spink no. 3520. A silver sixpence of Elizabeth I dated 1572. Description: The coin is unclipped but there is an old crack to the edge of the flan, possibly from farm machinery damage, or from a flaw in the casting of the original flan blank. This has resulted in a small amount of lost material from the flan edge. The obverse of the coin, and especially the bust, is very rubbed and worn, suggesting that it was in circulation for some time. A very worn, silver sixpence of William III dated 1696 and bent in four places, probably as a love token. The coin is bent into the usual S-shape, and then turned through 90 degrees and bent again into a further S-shape.
