Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy Medieval mount with suspension loop. The mount consists of two sub-circular lobes with central rivet holes joined by a narrow strip. A broken stub at the base of one of the lobes together with the remnant of the metal strip behind the extant rivet indicates that originally a suspension loop was present that looped back on itself at the base and was retained by the lower rivet. A similar example can be seen in Egan, J. and Pritchard, F. Dress Accessories c1150-1450 (2002); p214-215; No.1166. Substantial remains of gilding survives. Circa AD1150-1350 Extant length 39.4mm, w…

Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: East Sussex
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Copper alloy Post Medieval sub-square bi-faced Angel coin weight with trapezoidal cross-section. Surface corrosion has removed all but the faintest vestiges of the struck image, however one face, within an inner circle, depicts Saint Michael spearing a dragon; the roman numerals XI are stamped in the lower left hand corner outside of the circle. The other face is more difficult to interpret, but appears to be the hand of Antwerp within a circle, with a letter visible in the left field, possibly an "A". The angel was revalued by James I in 1612 to 11 shillings as indicated by the roman …
